Good morning Reader! Let me tell you something that might change how you experience the rest of your life. Ready? You are not actually living in reality. You're living in your interpretation of it. And yesterday β we started uncovering what that interpretation is made of. It's made of three signals: Thought π Breath π¬οΈ Attention β¨ Your nervous system is not responding to what is actually happening around you. It's responding to these three things. Which meansβ¦ The way life feels; the way your body reacts; the way your day lands β all runs on three inputs. And here's where it gets good. π Every single one of them is in YOUR hands. You have real, trainable, teachable control over how you experience life. We begin with thought. πSometimes thought is loud. But most of the timeβ¦ it's not. It's a quiet sentence running in the background. "I can't handle this." "I'm behind." "I already know .. And your nervous system listens. It doesn't check if the thought is true. It doesn't ask for evidence. It simply responds β as if it were real. Your mind listens too. π§ It also doesn't check if what you tell it is trueβ¦ But it does go looking for evidence to confirm it. It scans your day. It filters what you notice and bring your attention to. It gathers proof of your thoughts β and it will find exactly what you told it to find. The rope and the snake πHere's an old teaching for this. You walk into a dim room and see a rope on the floor. For a moment β your brain reads it as a snake. Your heart rate rises, breath catches, and body freezes. The snake was never there but the response was real because you thought it was a snake. That's the power thought has over you β when you don't have power over it. π« Two routes to rein in your thought:There are two ways to work with thought. One is conscious β the thoughts you can catch in real time. The other is unconscious β the layer underneath. The patterns laid down years ago. The ones your system keeps responding to without you ever even seeing the thought itself. The best results come from working with both. And today, I want to focus on the "unconscious" layer, because it drives the "conscious" one. Here's the thing β You cannot think your way through the unconscious. Digging thought by thought could take a lifetime. But there's a better and gentler way β and the science agrees. A landmark Yale study (Brewer et al., PNAS 2011) showed that meditators have significantly reduced activity in the default mode network β the part of the brain that runs your mental loops, rumination, and self-referential chatter.
Meditation practice reaches what you cannot reach by thinking. It reorganizes the deepest layers underneath. Remember ? π
and
Pick one. Stay with it. Twice a day, 20 minutes each β for best results. You might be thinking β twice a day? Anastassiyaβ¦ I have a job.Back in my corporate days, I meditated in my car. ALL the time. Lunch break in the parking lot. Evening before stepping into the house. The layer underneath isn't picky about where you practice. It just needs you to show up. Tomorrow, we move to the conscious layer of thought. Love, |

Dear Reader, Today, on International Yoga Day, millions of people across the globe are rolling out their mats β and I want to invite you to something deeper than the poses. Over 2,000 years ago, the sage Patanjali opened the Yoga Sutras with a single truth: Yogah cittavrtti nirodhah. Yoga is the stilling of the changing states of the mind OR Yoga is the complete settlement of the activity of the mind. That's it. That's the whole practice. Physical poses, self-care, ethical decisions, raised...
Hi Reader! β¨ In quantum physics, an electron has two natures. A particle β electron's location at a certain point. And a cloud β a movement within a field. When physicists try to locate where the electron is, they discovered something that we still do not have a full explanation for: The act of looking in a certain direction within a cloud, increases the probability of finding the electron there. The attention of the observer directly affects the observed. This is called the collapse of the...
Good morning Reader! We've been talking about the signals your body reads β and the way those signals shape how you perceive life. Today: breath. π¬οΈ Breath is the signal your body reads at the most rudimentary level. You can use it to rev yourself up with energy. Or to calm yourself down when the logical mind has shut off β in a panic attack onset, in emotional flooding, in any moment when your system has shifted into fight or flight. In that state, all energy flows away from your logical,...
